We are excited to introduce the Palomar Star Lux Lift system to SKIN MD and Beyond. Many companies state that their machine will tighten the skin, improve texture and that patients will love the results. It has been my experience that most machines oversell and under produce. So, I asked Palomar Laser Company to put their machine to the test - and let my patients decide if it is a machine worth paying for. With most machines, patients will find some improvement - but the real test is if they thought that the results that they got would justify the money that they would have to spend.
All the patients experienced noticeable tightening in the jowls, nasal folds and eyes. It is hard to appreciate in the pictures - but they all commented that the texture of the skin had also improved. There was about 2 hours of heat experienced to the face immediately and about 24 hours of redness. The patients stated that the downtime was very minimal- which is very different to most of the machines available. Many patients do not understand the difference between Fraxel and the Palomar 1540 Star Lux Lift treatments. Basically the difference is in the treatment depth and preparation required for treatments.The Palomar Lux Lift uses many microchannels to penetrate into the dermis far below the outer most skin layer causing collagen contraction and remodeling. The outer surface of the skin is cooled by the patented sapphire tip eliminating pain and leaving the outermost layer of skin acting as a barrier to the elements while the deeper tissues heal and tighten. There is negligible downtime (1-2 days of slight swelling) and no reason to miss work. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth and skin tightening benefit most from this treatment but it can be used most anywhere. Fraxel by Reliant also uses microchannels but does not penetrate quite as deeply as the 1540. With the old Fraxel technology a BLUE dye is applied to the face prior to the treatment in order for the laser to treat the skin. This dye can be difficult to remove. Additionally, topical anesthetic is required foe all Fraxel machines 45 minutes prior to the application of the laser because of the pain associated with the treatment (no cooling tip). Before introducing the Palomar Lux Lift to SKIN MD and Beyond, I conducted a study on 5 of my patients. In the study, I did the left side of the face only. (the right side was a control). The Lux Lift should be 4-5 treatments 3-4 weeks apart. I was given the machine for 3 treatments. You can see from our before and after pictures that the results are quite amazing considering that they had only done 3 out of the 5 treatments. The patients were very pleased with the results- and they had unsolicited comments from friends/ family that they could see a difference in them. The patients are now continuing the treatments themselves, now that we have the machine - and feel that it is money well spent.
